What We Believe

Core Beliefs

The following are fundamental core beliefs of Starkville church of Christ. based on foundational truths taught in the Bible.  Our goal is that all of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of Biblical truth.

God

There is one eternally existing God (Psalms 90:2) who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (2 Cor. 13:14).  He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible (Col 1:16), and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise (Ps. 145). God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy.  He is unchangeable (James 1:17) and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Heb. 13:8).

Revelation

God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ, who is the visible image of the invisible God (Col.1:15), the holy Scriptures (Heb. 4:12), and through all of creation itself (Rom. 1:20)

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory (Gen: 1:27). The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin (Rom. 5:12).

 sin entered the world

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God (Gen. 3), they ceased to be what they were made to be and became distorted images of God.  This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God (Is. 59:2)

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God (2 Cor. 5:18).  He lived a life without sin (Heb. 4:15) and willingly died on the cross (John 10:17-18) to pay the penalty for our transgressions (Eph. 1:7).  God raised him from the dead (Acts 2:24) and now, by grace, he offers eternal life as a free gift to all who follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior (Eph 2:8-9).  Indeed, God’s grace is extended in response to our obedience of faith (Rom, 1:5), as we submit to God’s conditions for receiving his gift of salvation (Acts 2:38; 5:32; 22:16). Salvation can be found in Christ alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).

The Church

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ (Eph. 5:25-32) sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18-20).

Judgment ComING

Jesus Christ is returning one day to judge both the living and the dead.  We need to be ready when he comes (2 Cor. 5:10; John 5:28-29).
